The research group of Remote Sensing and GIS has recently obtained its approval to build the map portal for Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). This research is a part of the campus map-updating program, since our campus has recently build some new buildings in the last couple of years.
Last year, in collaboration with Ikatan Mahasiswa Geodesi ITB (Geodesy Students Association; IMG-ITB), we have conducted the measurement activities. Students from IMG-ITB and the department of Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering were largely involved during the research, including the data acquisition through Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), field measurements, also the data processing. As the result, the latest and fully updated map of the campus was produced, both for the Ganesha Campus and the Jatinangor Campus.
As a continuation from the preceding activity, this year, we aim to build a map portal. The GIS-based portal is aimed to be launched later this year, to provide better spatial information for the academic community in the campus, including students, lecturers, staffs, and even visitors.
The portal will display more than just a static map–interactive maps will be showcased. The features of the portal will include:
- Query feature; every individual can simply search for buildings, facilities or even rooms. The portal will also provide the routes to each features.
- Virtual tour; users can experience the virtual tour of the campus. This will feature 360° panoramic images of the campus, including outdoor and indoor scenes.
- Gallery; with the rich history that our campus possess, each of our buildings has its own story. This feature will not only display the galleries of the building, but also the brief description if them.
